Structure and Pricing Model Change for MBM 5.0

Mooberry Book Manager has been completely restructured starting with version 5!

Instead of individual add-on premium plugins, Mooberry Book Manager will now be sold in levels:

  • Basic
  • Authors
  • Advanced
  • Pro

How do the levels correspond to the previous add-on plugins?

There’s a simple mapping between the new level and the old add-ons.  Each level includes everything from the lower levels.

The Basic level is the base level of Mooberry Book Manager.

Authors

This adds the functionality that was part of Multi-Author.

Advanced

This adds Additional Images, Advanced Widgets, and Retail Links Redirect.

Pro

This adds in Custom Fields and Advanced Grids.

How do the prices compare?

The prices for the 3 upper levels are in line with the initial pricing of the extensions it includes. Pricing now is the same every year; there is no longer a discount after the first year.

Basic

$29/year

Authors

$49/year

Advanced

$99/year

Pro

$199/year

The biggest change is the basic level will no longer be free. But don’t freak out yet — keep reading!

Why is the Basic version No Longer Free?!

Before you come at me with pitchforks, hear me out!

In previous versions of Mooberry Book Manager, I used a free software library for managing the data. With version 5, I have switched to a different library. This one is not free, and as part of the terms to be able to include it in Mooberry Book Manager, I am no longer allowed to list Mooberry Book Manager in the WP Plugin Repository to give away for free.

When version 5 is released, everyone on my mailing list will receive a coupon code for the basic level so that they can update to version 5 for free (and no yearly fee either.)

Not on my mailing list and didn’t receive the code? Don’t worry. Once version 5 is available, you will easily find information on this website that will tell you how you can save the money.

Was it worth changing the library and losing the ability to list in the WP Plugin Repository? Yes, I think so. The new library I’m using is much better, faster than the previous one, and includes more features. You may notice that Mooberry Book Manager version 5 has a cleaner interface. That is because of the library.

Why not make the Basic level super cheap like $0.99? Because credit card processing fees. The payment processor I am using has a minimum price requirement. And the $29/year price point allows me to add a monthly plan.

Wait, did you say Monthly Plan?

Yes, indeed I did! Switching payment processors has allowed me to offer monthly plans!

I know that large yearly prices can be a hardship, especially for authors starting out. So now there is the option for smaller, monthly payments:

Basic

$2.99/month

Authors

$4.99/month

Advanced

$9.99/month

Pro

$19.99/month

But I Already Own Some Add-Ons…

Have no fear. I have thought long and hard about how to handle this transition and what is the most fair to all involved. So here’s how it’s going to work:

I will personally email everyone with an active license for one or more of the add-ons with instructions on how to migrate.

That email will contain a coupon code to purchase a yearly license of the level that covers all of the add-ons you currently have active licenses for. The coupon code will reduce the price of the yearly license to the price you are currently paying for all of the add-ons you, and that will continue to be the price you pay every year, regardless of the price of the level you are being migrated to.

When you purchase the yearly license, you will have a 2 week trial started (so you will not be charged when you purchase the license). I will personally extend that trial to match the renewal date of your existing add-ons. So you won’t pay anything until you would have charged for your renewal anyway.

Your existing subscription through Paypal will be canceled.

You will have until December 31, 2024 to migrate to version 5.

So, to sum up:

  • You will not be charged more than what you are currently paying, even if your new MBM level costs more
  • You will not be charged until your license renewal would have happened
  • You will have the same — or possibly more — features that you did in v4

What’s the catch? Only that if you don’t migrate by December 31, 2024, you will have to pay full price like a new customer if you choose to use version 5 after December 31, 2024.

Any Other Changes?

Yes.

If your license expires (if you cancel renewals or payments fail), you will not be able to use any Mooberry Book Manager features in the admin dashboard. You can restore functionality by activating a valid license key. No data will be deleted from your site.

Payments will now be processed through Paddle. You will have the option to pay via Paypal or with a credit or debit card. If you are not American, you will be able to see the prices in your currency.

All purchases now come with a 14-day free trial. As such, refunds are no longer allowed. If the plugin does not meet your needs, you may cancel anytime during the first 14 days and you will not be charged.
