Starting with version 5, Mooberry Book Manager will be removed from the WordPress Repository to be hosted elsewhere.
Mooberry Book Manager version 4 hosted on the WordPress Repository will no longer be updated as of January 31, 2025. You are welcome to continue to use it, however as WordPress continues to update, there is no guarantee Mooberry Book Manager version 4 will continue to work properly.
The only way to ensure Mooberry Book Manager will continue to function with future versions of WordPress is to upgrade to Mooberry Book Manager version 5 as described on this page.
Curious what’s new in version 5?
Version 5 Requirements
Starting with version 5.0, MBM will require at a minimum:
- WordPress 6.3
- PHP 7.0 (the programming language WordPress, plugins, and themes are written in.)
If you are already at those versions or higher, you are good to go! If not, you will need to update before you update to MBM 5.0.
To learn how to determine what version your site is currently running, check out this blog post for details.

Unfortunately, due to the number of changes, updating to version 5 isn’t as simple as just upgrading your MBM plugin. So I’ve laid out this step-by-step guide to help you through! This only needs to be done once on your site.
Step 1. Back Up Your Website
Mooberry Book Manager version 5 requires some database changes, so it’s a good idea to make a backup of your website before continuing, just in case.
Please check with your web hosting company if you are not sure how to back up your website. Instructions are going to vary based on the company, so I can’t give you exact instructions here.
Step 2. Review Changes
If you’ve never made any customizations to the way MBM works in the form of custom code, you can skip this step.
This only applies to customizations that would have been implemented via a custom plugin or in your theme’s functions.php file. Customizations you’ve made using the Appearance -> Customize -> Additional CSS feature are NOT affected.
Check out the list of changes and verify if any of your customizations are affected. (Or contact the developer you had create customizations to review them.)
If there are changes that are affected, deactivate your custom plugin or comment out the applicable code in your functions.php theme file. After you’ve updated to version 5, then you use the list of changes to update the code and re-activate the custom code.
Step 3. De-Activate Mooberry Book Manager version 4.x
MBM Version 5.0 cannot run when there are version 4.x MBM plugins installed. De-activate Mooberry Book Manager.
Step 4. Activate Mooberry Book Manager version 5.x
You should receive an email titled “How to Get Started With Mooberry Book Manager Basic” with instructions for installing it as well as your license key. Follow those instructions to download and install Mooberry Book Manager.
Go to Mooberry Book Manager Settings -> Tools -> License Keys and copy and paste your key and Activate it.
Step 5. Turn off Caching
If you are using any caching plugins, please temporarily disable caching in order to migrate the data. It may help to clear your cache, as well.
Step 6. Migrate Data
When version 5.0 is installed, it will detect that you had version 4.x and require you to migrate the data before allowing you to use any MBM-related page.
Go to Mooberry Book Manager Settings -> Tools -> Migrate and start the migration.
You do not need to remain on the migration page. It will continue to work in the background. You won’t be able to use any MBM-related pages until the migration is complete, however you can use other parts of WordPress such as Posts, Pages, etc.
You can return to Mooberry Book Manager Settings -> Tools -> Migrate to check the progress.
If you have any issues with the migration, please reach out to me at support@mooberrydreams.com.
Step 7. Turn on Caching
If you use any caching plugins, you can re-enable them after the migration.
NOTE: MBM version 5 will NOT delete any version 4 data, so in the rare situation that something does go wrong, you can deactivate version 5 and re-activate version 4. Or restore your site from the backup you made in step 1. If this happens, please reach out to me at support@mooberrydreams.com so we can get you working with version 5.
